Restaurants and Eating Out in Costa Rica
ADVERTISEMENT
Costa Rica is a republic located in
Central America, with both the Pan Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea
on either side of its coast. Though considered to be a small country,
this little popular tourist destination attracts millions each year and
counting and you would see just why once you get there. Many have
commented on the hospitability of the country and of course, the
delicious food.
Dinning in Costa Rica is a real breath of fresh air. Most restaurants
and eateries are so laid back and cozy that you'll feel right at home
straight away. A good restaurant to start of with would be Restaurante
La Yunta located in Puntarenas. Said to be one of the best steakhouses
in the area, this wooden building not only boasts great steaks and
seafood cooked in almost a dozen ways imaginable, but a panoramic view
of the ocean while you dine.
The next restaurant embodies both the food and the spirit of what it
means to be local. Delicias de Mi Tierra, or translated literally as
"Delicacies of my land" serve traditional favorites around here. Cascado
Campesino (stewed beef and rice served with corn and beans and
plantains) which is usually the main course and the most filling. If you
can't decide what to order, go for the parrillada de campo (a typical
country barbeque) which comes with grilled meats of different kinds,
salad, plantains and rice. If you love tortillas, fiesta de gallos would
be your entradita (entrée), with a whole platter of corn totillas and
dozens of fillings.

Located in Alajuela just west of the Barrio San Jose
Church, this place is certainly one not to be missed.
While in San Jose, try the famous Costa Rican themed restaurant with a
difference. With Italian owners, not only do you get the local food, but
thrown in together, you get traditional Italian as well. This beautiful
little restaurant is usually packed during lunchtime, with majority of
the crowd going for their Platos del dia (daily specials). This
restaurant is definitely worth a try; however, keep in mind to go early
as they close at 7 on weeknights.
If you want a little change from all the local food and "soda"
restaurants, try Tin Jo, which serves great Asian food and even caters
to the vegetarian side with its extensive menu. Or if you're longing for
that American styled burger, head for Banana Bay, with hefty food
servings which would most certainly leave you full. My advice though,
when in Costa Rica, their traditional foods win hands down.
